Reusable Blossom Pads (SAFE Project)

Since 2021, Sultana Fund's Reusable Blossom Pads (SAFE Project) has been transforming lives by addressing two of Afghanistan's most pressing challenges: period poverty and women's unemployment.

Warmth for Families. Work for Women.

When an earthquake struck Kunar and winter brought further hardship, Sultana Fund and NCPDO joined forces to produce and distribute 750 sleeping bags for families in Afghanistan. Afghan women handcrafted the bags, earning income while helping their communities through an emergency. Funding and support from TravelerPack and Blossom Hill helped turn a local response into warmth, livelihoods, and hope.

From Local Idea to UNICEF Partnership

From 2019 through 2021, our reusable sanitary napkin project showed what Afghan women’s entrepreneurship could achieve. Afghan women earned income making affordable, washable pads, and we grew the project into a social enterprise that sold its products both in Kabul markets and to UNICEF for distribution to schoolgirls.

Selling to UNICEF was a major milestone. It showed that a product made locally by Afghan women could reach more girls, generate revenue, and create jobs—all while addressing a need in menstrual health.
